Children should grow up knowing that they have a voice. They should feel confident enough to ask questions, express their needs, and speak up when something is unfair.
But alongside rights, they also need to learn responsibility. Having a voice does not mean ignoring others, cutting queues, demanding everything we want, or forgetting basic respect and humility.
A balanced upbringing teaches children both: “Know your rights, and remember your responsibilities.”
Rights teach us what we are entitled to; responsibility teaches us how to use that freedom without taking away from others.
“Teach children to know their rights, but never forget to teach them their responsibilities. Rights give you a voice; responsibility teaches you how to use it.”
