When Forgiveness Is Not Permission

There is a difference between forgiveness and permission.
Sometimes, we hurt someone and then focus entirely on how they reacted. We complain about their anger, their distance, their words, or their inability to remain calm—while ignoring what caused the reaction in the first place.
They may eventually forgive us. They may speak to us normally again. But that forgiveness should never become an invitation to repeat the same behavior.
When someone repeatedly gives us another chance, taking that kindness for granted is not a sign that they are weak. It is a responsibility placed in our hands.
Healthy relationships require accountability. We cannot keep reopening the same wound and then blame the person for bleeding.
“Don’t hurt someone, complain about their reaction, and then mistake their forgiveness for permission to hurt them again.”
