It is easy to notice when someone treats us unfairly. We quickly recognise the behaviour, question their intentions, and feel hurt by their actions.
But when the situation is reversed, we may suddenly find reasons to justify our own behaviour.
True self-awareness begins when we are willing to look at ourselves with the same honesty with which we look at others.
Before asking, “How could they behave that way?”perhaps we should sometimes ask, “Would I have done the same in their place?”Because integrity is not simply knowing what is right or wrong.
It is holding ourselves to the same standard we expect from others.
