The Quiet Strength of Self-Control

Self-control is often tested in the moments when we are angry, hurt, frustrated, or tempted to respond immediately.

Our tongue can say what our emotions want to say before wisdom has had a chance to speak.Knowing when to remain silent does not mean we are weak or unable to defend ourselves.

Sometimes, it takes greater strength to pause, think, and choose words carefully than it does to speak impulsively.

Not every thought needs to be spoken.

Not every provocation deserves a response.

And not every truth needs to be delivered in the heat of emotion.Self-control is not merely controlling our actions. It is learning to govern our words, especially when our emotions are demanding an immediate response.

A wise person knows that words cannot always be taken back once spoken.

“One of the clearest tests of self-control is knowing when to hold your tongue.”
