When Equality Should Continue Into Marriage

We often teach our sons and daughters that they are equally capable. We encourage both to study, build careers, become independent, and pursue their goals. But marriage should not suddenly bring back the idea that household responsibilities belong primarily to the woman.

A home is shared by two people. Cooking, cleaning, caring for children, managing the household, and supporting one another are responsibilities that can be shared according to each couple’s circumstances—not assigned simply because of gender.

Being a husband does not mean being exempt from household work, just as being a wife does not mean being responsible for all of it.Marriage is a partnership. And partnership means sharing the responsibilities, not shifting them onto one person.

“If we raise sons and daughters as equals, marriage should not turn partnership into a woman’s burden.”
