A Home That Reflects God’s Love

Children should never have to compete for their parents’ love, attention, or sense of belonging.
Every child may have a different personality, different needs, and different strengths. Parents may naturally connect with each child in different ways, but those differences should never become favoritism that makes one child feel more valued than another.
Scripture reminds us that “God shows no partiality.” — Romans 2:11. If we are created in His image, our homes should strive to reflect something of that same fairness, compassion, and love.
A child may not always understand every decision a parent makes, but they notice patterns. They notice who is defended, who is praised, who is forgiven quickly, and who is expected to keep adjusting. What may seem insignificant to an adult can become deeply significant in a child’s heart.
Love does not have to look identical with every child. But every child should have the confidence that they are equally precious, equally valued, and equally welcome in their family.
A home should be a place where children experience the kind of love that points them toward God—not a place where they learn to compete for it.
“We are created in the image of a God who loves His children; may our homes reflect that love, not favoritism.”
